The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is taking comments regarding a proposed expansion of the Rainwater Wetland Management District in Nebraska. Comments are being taken on the draft Environmental Assessment and Land Protection Plan. Both are available for review of the Rainwater Basin National Wildlife Refuge website or on the regional planning website. The proposed expansion would be accomplished by acquiring interest in approximately 9,000 acres by-fee title and 5,000 acres by establishing perpetual conservation easements. Land would be acquired from willing sellers only. According to USFWS, the proposed expansion is to provide needed habitat protection for the bird migrations.
Comments are accepted until July 1.
