On May 27, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) released a request for public comment on a series of transportation issues directly related to production agriculture and the movement of commodities. However the FMCSA guidance seems to apply a one-size-fits-all approach to how they are looking to regulate the transportation of agricultural products.
Background: The guidance was introduced purely for public safety reasons. The problem is that FMCSA’s approach lacks common sense and does not acknowledge the many nuances of American agriculture.
Action Needed: The comment period of this guidance will end on August 1, however we are urging Nebraska Farm Bureau members to continue to contact the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and let them know that this proposed guidance is bad for agriculture.
