Your Vote Matters: A Message from the Nebraska Farm Bureau President

steve corn head shotIt’s hard to believe that Labor Day has come and gone and summer is rapidly coming to a close. But with children back in school, harvest right around the corner, and Husker football and volleyball back on the field and on the court, the season has clearly changed.

There’s another season that starts in earnest this time of year as well. Election season. With such a large number of candidates running for the various offices in the May Primary it’s not hard to believe some Nebraskans may have gotten election fatigue.

While that’s understandable, it’s important we still make the effort to be informed voters. The foundation of what gets done for Nebraskans at the local, state and national level has much to do with who we elect to public office. Everyday elected officials are making decisions about how tax dollars (our money) are being spent. More than that, we empower these elected officials to shape the rules, laws and regulations we live by.

That’s why it’s so important we take the time to get to know the candidates as we head toward the Nov. General Election.

In this post, I am highlighting a candidate who is seeking your vote this November. Nebraska gubernatorial candidate Pete Ricketts received Nebraska Farm Bureau’s “Friend of Agriculture” endorsement in June.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to meet Ricketts, I hope you will take the time to look at him as a candidate for the next governor of Nebraska. After all, each of us have something at stake and a responsibility to help determine who will lead our state into the future.

Sincerely,
Steve Nelson
