Chocolate Cherry Kisses

Ingredients

1 cup softened butter or margarine

1 cup powdered sugar

2 tablespoons maraschino cherry juice

½ teaspoon almond extract

3 drops red food coloring

2 ¼ cups flour

½ teaspoon salt

½ cup chopped and drained maraschino cherries

1 package Hershey’s kisses

 

Directions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine butter, sugar, cherry juice, almond extract, food coloring.
  2. Stir in the flour and salt until blended.
  3. Add the chopped cherries.
  4. Chill the dough for at least 1 hour before baking.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350º.
  6. Form dough into 1-inch balls. Place dough balls 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
  7. Bake for 10-15 minutes. You don’t want them to brown. Remove from the oven and gently push a kiss into the center of each cookie.
  8. Cool on a wire rack.

 

Yield: 2-3 dozen cookies
